Steve2. The org often doesn't acknowledge sources. It used to drive a university educated bro I know crazy when they said in a wt article 'as one scholar notes' without proper referencing!

Why are some that post here JW apologists?
by ctrwtf inmy rant tonight is against the quasi religious apologists that post on this board.
those who at once rail against the jw's then later talk about how "orderly" and "neat" the witnesses are at their conventions.
those who site the benefits of bloodless surgery to some who have the luxury and time to actually make an educated choice, while ignoring the tens of thousands who've died because they happen to be in an accident or succumb to a disease for which there is no other treatment.. i understand the power of cognitive dissonance.

I'm kind of with Stephane Laliberte on this one. I started reading on this forum about two and a half years ago. All as a consequence of the famous July 2013 Watchtower study which really got the ball rolling on all the recent changes. Since then I have read both of Ray Franz's books. But I am still 'sort of in.' I don't believe a lot of it anymore, but my wife is very much a believer and would be totally crushed if she knew the true extent of my doubts. She suspects something but wants to keep the status quo so it's 'don't ask, don't tell.'
It's complicated.

Which Public Talks did you enjoy giving/hearing? And which ones did you dislike giving or hearing?
by humblepotato ini was just going through some of my talk outlines and i've decided to git rid of quite a few of them.
i'm still serving, but as time goes on... there are many subjects i will not teach anymore.. i got rid of the outlines dealing with blood, the field ministry, and ones talking about 607 and 1914. i can barely stand hearing them let alone give them.
in fact, talk 41 "stand still and see the salvation of jehovah" is one i got rid of because its whole point was about having blind obedience toward the gb and the elders during the great tribulation, and that we need to start practicing obedience now if we want to survive.

My fave ones were on love. I loved giving "love identifies the true Christian congregation" and another love one, can't remember the name now. Both based on 1 Corinthians 13. Christian qualities, yah! I avoided the prophecy and end of the world ones.

Could we use the new shunning guidelines to our advantage?
by Island Man inaccording to new, officially published guidelines, jws can now shun a person who has not been disfellowshipped from the congregation.
i see this guideline being abused by many jws who have an axe to grind with a fellow jw.
for example, let's say sister peinindiass rubs sister sensitive the wrong way.

People are mentioning new official shunning guidelines on shunning faders who are not DF'd. As I think somebody once said in a presidential campaign, "where's the beef?" It may be true, but spill the beans!

Help - I'm going to be conducting the watchtower study
by Saltheart Foamfollower init looks like i'm going to have to take the watchtower study for a while so i thought i'd seek help.. i wont be outing myself or stating anything too controversial, but so far i have come up with the following tactics : 1) ask questions which will get people thinking even if it is about something insignificant - developing a questioning mind is the key to discovering ttat as far as i am concerned.
2) highlight any extreme points so that some might realise they are extreme.
3) highlight any good points - helping others in need for example - just because it is the right thing to do.. if anyone has any general comments which could help, please post them here.

By the way, why do you have to take the wt study? Please do not think I am being difficult or unsympathetic but when I was doing accounts in my cong and I wanted to stop doing it I just kept on saying no until they believed me. The same thing happened when I resigned as an elder. I just kept saying, 'I can't do this' (family issues) until they believed me and let me resign.

I used to take the study until about two years ago. I couldn't do it now even if I was still an elder as there are too many things I don't agree with. Sorry l can't help. I don't know how you can do it. Kudos to you if you can.

The Ray Franz Saga
by snugglebunny ini'm just curious as to how it all happened.. to explain.
many years back, before ex-jw websites, i called on a local lady in order to design an extension to her already enormous house.
she was a young, voluptuous gal, married to a much older local business man who spared little expense in order to give his young wife whatever her heart desired.. we chatted for ages.

Fisherman, in this week's wt study we were told that directions given on how we do the ministry should be viewed as coming from God himself. We also had a recent circuit overseer visit where he quoted a scripture in Revelation about the elders being stars in Jesus' right hand, as he has complete control and can remedy any mistakes made by individuals. But he did not extend this to admit that many mistakes have been made in timing, as you even admit. You can't have it both ways. Either he is in control and responsible for the mistakes made through the years, or the GB and the local elders are on their own(hence all the mistakes made!).

Some thoughts on guilt.
by New day inhad an interesting conversation with my wife recently.
she struggles with physical, emotional and psychological problems which have often caused her to miss meetings.
she mentioned how she is equally tortured by guilt if she misses meetings and ministry, and severe stress if she does them.

Thanks Xanthippe. I don't post very often but when I do I usually get very understanding replies from kind people like you. I do still have some very old friends in the org who I am very fond of but alas I cannot speak freely to them about all my concerns as I would be labeled as an apostate. Any small feelers I put out were greeted with uncomfortable silences, refutations and subject changes. Nice to be truly myself here.

The Judge
by New day ingenuine question here.
a lot has been said on this site about how judge rutherford responded to events in his day by 'revealing' the great crowd of earthly subjects of the kingdom.
it was always portrayed to me as a reaction from the ground up of those who didn't want to go to heaven.

Genuine question here. A lot has been said on this site about how Judge Rutherford responded to events in his day by 'revealing' the great crowd of earthly subjects of the kingdom. It was always portrayed to me as a reaction from the ground up of those who didn't want to go to heaven. This resonated with me as I didn't want to go to heaven either. Why did he do it? Too many people who wanted to go to heaven or what? -

Smiddy, with all due respect, my relationship with my wife has never been like the one you describe. She did not wait, starry-eyed for all my God inspired pronouncements. Actually, and this has always been an impediment to my 'progress' in the org, l have always believed that men and women are equal. Now you may have met people who behaved in this way, and l don't doubt that you have, but our dynamic does not work that way. She has, though, been very influenced by a misguided loyalty, in a general way, to the org. Thank you for your sincere advice.
